Different things view trekking through ABC Region
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is
also known as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek (ABC) and is one of the most popular
short to medium length treks in Nepal. Annapurna base camp trek at an altitude
of over 4,000m. It is an oval-shaped plateau which is surrounded by mountains
especially, Annapurna range of over 7,000m.
The Annapurna
base camp trek is characterized by various ecosystems due to typical
combination of heights and depths. The jungles of rhododendron
and bamboo in south facing slopes capture the heart of any trekker whereas the
rain shaded part of north facing slopes expose you to drier and colder climate
which is almost similar to Tibetan Plateau located nearby.
The Anapurna base camp trek is regarded as a sacred site to Gurung people, native inhabitants of the area. Earlier, they used to believe that the area was the repository of treasures buried by Nagas. They (Nagas) are regarded as serpent gods in India.
Apart from Annapurna base camp
trek, the destination was thought to be a home of different deities
particularly Hindu and Buddhist. For instance, the peak of Machhapuchhre
(Fishtail Mountain) at the entrance was said to be the home of Lord Shiva.
Similarly, the plumes of snow were regarded as the smoke of Lord Shiva’s divine
incense.
At present, the number of
visitors or trekkers in the Annapurna Base Camp Trek has surged significantly.
This is because the site unlocks different peaks of Annapurna range along with
the mesmerizing beauty of waterfalls, winding rivers, greenery and yes, the
blooming of rhododendrons which blanket almost entire green hills into the red.
Trekking to Annapurna base camp
trek begins from Nayapl via Pokhara which ultimately leads you to the foot of
Annapurna at the Base Camp. The ABC is situated at an altitude of 4,210m. This
lifetime trail introduces you to various cultures, traditional villages, and
ethnic groups of the country—Magar, Thakali, and Gurung.
